Old House

It was the 1930s, the grandparents came from Batet, and they bought the house in Can Constans .

In the 40s there was a great downpour. A huge rock slid and broke through a very thick wall of the home, pierced the ceiling and fell on the bed of the grandparents, who had just gotten up ten minutes ago.

It is the 1950s. After the wedding, the parents settle in the village. The farmhouse was big, but it wasn't a manor house. There was more space for beatings and paintings than for living space.

The father, although he didn't like it very much, was a farmer, working the garden, the fields or he picked potatoes and cut the grass in the meadows. The parents had chickens, rabbits and about ten cows.

Life, those first years, was not easy at all. While the children were coming into the world, the world of the village of Queralbs was not a very warm place then. The winters were long, cold and with a lot of snow, the profits that the land gave and the sale of the milk were rather meager and if we also add that for several years, some cows were loved in the mountains, because of the storms, we can sense that the outlook was not at all encouraging.

It is not surprising that all these circumstances and others made the parents decide to go ahead, which then, without a doubt, a peculiar, not to say eccentric, project. Convert that house, with so few comforts, into a lodging house for city people.

Considering that, in addition, potential customers were almost non-existent in that corner of the world, away from civilization, four hours by road from the city of Barcelona, the idea could seem like real madness. At least, this is what some neighbors and acquaintances thought.

We will probably never know how the father got the first customers, but if we know about his tenacity, strength, ability to fight and especially of their conviction and trust in this dream, which together with the work and the complicity of the mother, they managed to move forward.

And the customers kept coming. The father was going to pick them up at the racket traindeQueralbs station , he talked about the house to the travelers who were going toNúria, to people he knew in the town and other towns around, to everyone. Little by little the house became known, little by little, the house was also transformed. The cowsheds and the cowsheds became rooms, the dining room was expanded, the cows were reduced and the first families to arrive spread the word and brought other families.

The farmhouse grew and grew and became a beautiful rooming house that the parents named "Pension Masia Can Constans".

Today the children continue their work and try to maintain their spirit of welcome and warmth towards our customers.
